It was a fine Sunday afternoon when we visited Fat Daddy's Smokehouse in UP Town Center. By WE, it was 75% of the "wise-family". My son had to attend a birthday party so he missed out on this awesome gustatory experience.
Let me tell you more about it!
WHERE IT ALL STARTED:
Fat Daddy's Smokehouse, which is popular for its juicy rack of perfectly smoked ribs, has grown from its first branch at Dau Marikina. The Versoza siblings wanted to bring to the Filipinos the smokehouse experience they all love and enjoy, from all their travels abroad. For all of you foodies out there, I am sure you have heard of their famous surname -- the siblings now manage the trusted Josiah's catering.
Trivia: When they were thinking of an appropriate logo for Fat Daddy's - the artist made this cute chubby, moustached man... without realizing that it looked like daddy Boyet Versoza :)

FAT DADDY's EXPERIENCE:
I have to admit, in the family, I am the veggie-seafood lover. But any given opportunity to eat meat, I enjoy ribs! I need all the protein I can get :) But my teens and Mr.Wise are all certified carnivores! Especially the hubby, who knows good quality beef/pork when he tasted one. Also, because he is the "king of the kitchen" at home (read: he is in charge of cooking!)
First to arrive is JERA'S ULTIMATE PULLED PORK AND BACON. A serving of tortilla chips with generous toppings of bacon, pulled pork, tomatoes, corn salsa with cheese, garlic and barbecue sauces. Because I love anything and everything with cheese -- I enjoyed this as a starter.

Then came the BUTTERMILK FRIED LIVERS. It was crunchy, tasty, but retained its "melt-in-the-mouth" consistency, which I think would be best eaten with beer or any other alcoholic drink, because I find its texture somewhat empowering. The alcohol will definitely neutralize that feeling... me thinks!
Other dishes that are also ideal for your kids are MAC AND CHEESE and HOT MESS -- layers of mashed potatoes barbecue pulled pork, smoked bacon and mozarella cheese. Quite filling if you finish all by yourself.

SMOKED HOT LINKS --- this one got our vote as the "to-die-for" dish in Fat Daddy's. Its flavor is so addicting, you can't seem to have enough of it. This one is also on top of our list to order as "take-out" and enjoy more at the comforts of our home -- maybe with some wine or beer. This half pound of hot links with pickles and piedmont bbq sauce is such a winner!

In time for the Lenten season, you can enjoy this FRIED SEAFOOD PLATTER of fish, squid and shrimps.

And now... for the Star of the Fat Daddy's -- the SMOKED MEAT PLATTER. OMG! As I am writing this blog article, and I remember that heavenly feeling of biting into that "smoked-for-12-hour-goodness" of the meat --- I wanna go to Fat Daddy's this very minute! As in!
The platter includes SMOKED:
>> quarter leg chicken
>> hot links
>> beef brisket
>> pork ribs (MrWise's favorite)
>> pulled pork shoulder (MrsWise's favorite)
The secret in this platter's awesome goodness is in the right amount of time and temperature of smoking given to the meat. Plus in the secret dry rub that they use. You can see the charred edges, but it retained its tenderness.

For the grand finale... we were treated to BACON and S'MORES DIP. A nice way to end a very hearty meal.

MRSWISE VERDICT:
Overall, Fat Daddy's Smokehouse delivered what it promised -- delicious and flavourful smoked meat dishes.Reasonably priced, because the serving is big. Most dishes are for sharing.
It is a good place to visit on weekends, with the entire family. I enjoyed my bonding and eating moment with my hubby and daughter. It is also an ideal place for barkada bonding or office hours chillin'.
