MOMMY PATCH PRODUCTS, BECAUSE MOMS WANT ONLY THE BEST FOR THEIR FAMILY!

People close to me know that I am always on the look out for products that are organic and natural.  The reasons:  One, I hate chemicals, because I am so allergic to it.  Even the faintest smell of paint and some chemical infused cleaning and household products pose a big threat to my sensitive lungs.  Two, I have always believed in the efficacy of all things organic, simply because nature has always been an excellent provider of things that can heal and protect us.  Thus, the quest for everything organic – from food, drinks, produce, beauty products, cleaning items and home rescue solutions, continues.

When I saw MOMMY PATCH products on display in Lokal, owned by a good friend, Mommy Connie Macatuno, I was intrigued.  I wanted to put the products into test right away.  So I was really excited when Mommy Patch agreed to collaborate with me on my blog.

AGE WELL: LIVE A HEALTHY, HAPPY, ACTIVE LIFE!

BACKSTORY:

I was an only child.  My nanay was 39 years old when I was born.  When she passed away in 2007, she was 76 years old.  Looking back, I think, she had an unhappy "middle-old" phase. She suffered from COPD, she cannot go out of the house, she missed going to church or the market.  Her activities were restricted because she became dependent on the oxygen tank.

These are the thoughts that were floating on my mind when I attended the AGE WELL bloggers meet at the Bayanihan Hall of Unilab Philippines. The event introduced me to the core needs of the elderly, and how can we make their lives Happy, Healthy and Active.

AI MEETS LANI: LANI MAY AI?

Let Mrs.Wise gives you a bit of showbiz trivia:

Did you know who gave Lani Misalucha her moniker "Asia's Nightingale"?  It was Ida Henares, wife of Ronnie Henares, who was Lani's former manager.   Lani said that Ida saw the word "nightingale" either on a cab or a street sign.

Did you know that the person who coined the title of  Ai-ai de las, "Comedy Concert Queen" is no other than the Concert King himself, Martin Nievera?

BECOMING FILIPINO, YOUR TRAVEL BLOG

I am a BIG fan of Kulas... I As in picture lang ang katapat!  I have always wanted to meet him ever since I learned about #Becoming Filipino on social media.

And I was so happy to finally meet him, hear him talk about his advocacy, his interesting stories about his PH travels.  At one point, I even felt "guilty" -- I am a Filipino, and I have also a BIG goal of traveling the entire country, one province at a time, with the BackPack Squad.  But Kulas' innate love for the Philippines, the way he raves about every travel, kindda makes him more Filipino than I am.  I just felt he loves the Philippines more than I do....

And this is his story ----

HAINANESE DELIGHTS: GRAND RE-OPENING IN ROBINSONS GALLERIA

My family has visited Hainanese Delights a couple of times already.  And it never failed to satisfy our cravings for flavorful food without punching a big hole in our pockets.

Recently, I was invited in the grand re-opening of their Robinsons Galleria branch in Level 2.  A bit of a trivia – this is the very first Hainanese Delights branch in the country, opened in February 14, 2012 by owners, husband and wife team -- Mr. Pierre Ching and Ms. Sheila Ong Ching.   And yes, it opened on Valentines Day, signifying Mr. Ching’s pure love and passion of bringing the Hainanese craze at an affordable price, to Filipino consumers.

ESPEJO NI PINGGOY

A lot of my "showbiz" friends are venturing into different fields.  Three of them worked for several years behind the camera.   Concert producer Ambie Burac is now the proud owner of Go-en Lite.  Connie Macatuno lied low in tv and movie directing, and is now an entrepreneur, the creative brain behind LOKAL.  Both Go-En Ramen Shoppe and LOKAL by the way were already featured on this blog  :)

And recently, the hardworking TV director Pinggoy Generoso has started another creative endeavor, Espejo ni Pinggoy.  Espejo is the Spanish word for mirror, which Pinggoy delicately crafts into wonderful artworks that show off his true love for anything and everything Filipiniana.

When we were still working together in Feel At Home, I remembered visiting his house in Marikina.  I was charmed by his Eclectic-Filipiniana inspired abode. Simple but very homey indeed. Especially at the time of my visit, I was in that stage of conceptualizing, designing and dreaming of my own house  :)

"On my spare time, I explore the corners of Laong Laan and Dapitan in Manila, scouting for scrap materials that I can still use, can refurbished.  I also like visiting Paete Laguna, and it was in that province that I met my artisan worker.  A sash factory in Antipolo referred me to a talented glass cutter and embosser, and they are now part of my team."

His very first creations, were intended to be gifts in the last quarter of 2013.  "I was thinking of what to give my hosts Boy and Kris for Christmas.  I thought... a mirror would be perfect for Boy  So I made two pieces.

Boy Abunda now is a proud collector of several mirrors.  The King of Talk described Pinggoy’’s work as ”the mirrors are beautiful.  It’s the kind of beauty that you have to experience.  Kung meron akong salamain na gagamitin sa interviews ito ay ang salamin ni Pinggoy.  Una, ito ay mahiwaga.  Pangalawa, pinoy na pinoy po. Ang creativity involved po ay uniquely Pinoy.”

HILLSIDE CAFE AND JUICE BAR: A HEALTHY HAVEN IN THE HEART OF QUEZON CITY

THE BACK STORY:

I love organic gardening.  I am super happy when I see my basil, lettuce, arugula and kale growing healthy outside.  If I can only wave a magic wand and instruct them all to grow FAST so I can have a constant supply of organic produce, hay....

So what’s the next best thing?  To discover and explore the neighborhood for alternative places where the family can get our healthy dose of organic food.  And guess what... I recently discovered Hillside Cafe and Juice Bar – a healthy haven in the heart of QC.  It is actually just a short walk from where I used to work (abs-cbn) and just beside my one of my favorite hang out places – Cedarhills garden center, where I buy most of my gardening tools and plants.

THREE THINGS I LEARNED FROM THE WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP

I’ve always been interested in the process of creation. But so far, I am successful only in creating, using my mind – that is why, I have countless concepts – that have been produced or just lingering inside handy little notebook.   But when it comes to creating art, using my hands – it is a totally different story.  I am not that good in drawing, sketching or painting.  But I am not afraid to try...

So I was excited to attend the watercolor workshop last Saturday, at the Crafters Marketplace in Shangrila Mall.  So excited that I was there at exactly 9:30am, for the 10am class.

Our art teacher for the day is Ian de Jesus, a Fine Arts graduate from the University of the East.  He graduated Magna cum Laude, and I thought, maybe he can make a Picasso out of me!  Just kidding :)

JACK’S JOINT: UNLI KEBAB AND SHAWARMA HAPPINESS

I was invited to a food tasting right in the heart of Quezon City. It is located in Panay Avenue... right smack in the busy street where offices are.  It is a quaint little restaurant, but don’t be deceived because it serves delicious food that will not put a hole into your pocket.

If you are craving for classic Turkish cuisine, then don’t fret and visit Jack’s Joint right away.  I am not a big fan of Turkish cuisine, but the dishes that I sampled here, are just so tasty and flavorful.

Let’s start with the Special Chicken and Beef Kebab.  It is so tender to the bite.  In fact, I didn’t even use a knife to eat it.  There is also less fat, perfect for someone like me who is health conscious.
