It’s July! And heavy rains happen every single day. In the place where we live, downpours come in the afternoon up to late evenings. Sometimes the rain gets as bad as a typhoon, wherein trees fall due to strong winds. I am not kidding... check out the video:
It’s been a week since
my son started his last year in junior high school, and on his 5th
day, he came home with a bad case of sore throat. I asked him to gargle with warm saltwater
before breakfast. And instructed him to
take in lots of fluids, and at nighttime, gave him warm turmeric tea. I just boiled a couple of crushed turmeric,
put in a tablespoon of honey and half a lemon.
Good thing, I harvested lots of turmeric from my organic garden. Turmeric is known to boost the immune
system. The lemon is an excellent source
of vitamin C, while honey helps in reducing the frequency of cough.
It took several days
before his cough and colds were totally gone.
I also observed that during the height of his coughs and colds, he had a
hard time sleeping at night. The effect, he had a hard time waking up in the
morning for school and a bit sluggish during daytime.
After a few days, my
husband came home with the same symptoms – soar throat and clogged nose. He went to the doctor and was diagnosed with
allergic rhinitis. Then it was my daughter’s turn. She is still on vacation, but the coughs and
colds hit her too. Which goes to show,
the “virus” outside, combined with the rainy weather are the culprits to our
family’s medical issues.
So I immediately
instructed the whole family to follow these precautionary steps to combat the
nasty viruses:
- Wash hands always with soap and water. Gave them their own hand sanitizers to use on a daily basis. As soon as they come home, I ask them to wash their hands thoroughly before doing anything inside the house.
- Gave them vitamin C.
- Get enough sleep. No internet until the wee hours of the morning.
- Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Since avocado is in season, we incorporate it as dessert or guacamole sauce. I am also on the constant lookout for guyabano in our garden. And lots and lots of lemon juice.
- Check on toothbrushes. Its a must that they are in a holder that keeps them apart. Viruses on one toothbrush can contaminate other if they touch each other.
My daughter’s case was
more severe. Started with constant
sneezing, then runny nose. After a few
day, she was coughing, to the point that her throat became painful. She also had a hard time sleeping at night
due to constant coughing and sneezing.
Thank God, there was no fever. If she developed one, I will definitely
rush her to the emergency room. Parents
should be wary nowadays when their children have fever. Better to be on the safe side than sorry.
So as a WISE mom I made
some research. Is there a cough and cold
medicine that I can give to my daughter, that can also help her with sleeping
soundly at night?
Then I discovered
TUSERAN NIGHT. The new medicine promises
nighttime relief for cold and cough.
Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) syrup contains: Diphenhydramine HCL and Phenylpropanolamine
HCL.
Diphenhydramine HCL is a
cough suppressant while Phenylpropanolamine HCL is a nasal decongestant.
TUSERAN NIGHT is a
medicine to relieve cough, clogged nose, postnasal drip, sneezing and itchu and
watery eyes associated with the common cold, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, flu
and other minor respiratory tract infections.
Having this information,
I bought TUSERAN NIGHT 60mL for Php110.
It is an OTC (Over the counter)
medicine, you don’t need a prescription from your doctor to buy. But I suggest if you will give this to
children 2-12 years old, better consult with a pediatrician first.
TUSERAN NIGHT should be
given orally every 6 hours or as recommended by a doctor.
- For children 2-6 years old ---- 2.5mL (1/2 teaspoonful)
- For children 7-12 years old ---- 5mL (1 teaspoonful)
- Adults and children over 12 years old ----10mL (2 teaspoonful)
So I gave my daughter
10mL of TUSERAN NIGHT, just before bedtime. The following day, she told me she
slept all night, and was not bothered by coughing. She felt rested. After three more dosages, the coughs and
colds improved. I did not let her go out
of the house for two days. She just
stayed at home while I am giving her medications. Because this medicine may cause drowsiness.
TUSERAN
NIGHT is NOT to be used as a sleep
medication or to combat insomnia. Hindi ito gamot na pampatulog. This is a
cough and cold medicine that aids in having better sleep at night.
